Identifying Arrythmias

Arrhythmias refer to irregular heartbeats stemming from the malfunctioning of the heart’s electrical signals. These irregularities can manifest in various ways: the heart might beat too quickly, termed tachycardia; too slowly, known as bradycardia; irregularly; or a combination thereof. Common forms of arrhythmia include:

  • Atrial fibrillation
  • Atrial flutter
  • Conduction block
  • Sick sinus syndrome
  • Supraventricular tachycardia
  • Ventricular fibrillation
  • Ventricular tachycardia

While some arrhythmias are benign and may not pose immediate health threats, others might necessitate prompt attention and intervention. Our seasoned expertise equips us to guide you in determining the most appropriate treatment pathway tailored to your unique situation. This could range from a simple lifestyle adjustment, medication management, to more aggressive interventions such as cardioversion, ablation, or the implantation of a cardiac device. You can be assured that we will engage in thorough discussions with you, ensuring the chosen treatment aligns perfectly with your personal needs and health goals

Chest Pain

If you experience chest pain accompanied by symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, or dizziness, or if you have risk factors for heart disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol, schedule a consultation with a cardiology specialist at Cigarroa Clinic. Our advanced facility offers comprehensive chest pain assessments, beginning with a review of your symptoms, medical background, and lifestyle, followed by recommendations for relevant tests

Chest pain can arise from various conditions affecting your upper body organs. Common causes include:

  • Angina
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Heart attack
  • Heart failure
  • Aortic aneurysm
  • Acid reflux
  • Ulcer
  • Muscle strain
  • Broken ribs
  • Anxiety

It’s vital to note that the nature of the pain might hint at its cause. However, given the severe implications of conditions like heart attacks, never dismiss chest pain. If you believe you’re experiencing a heart attack, immediately call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room.

Interventional Cardiology

After an evaluation, patients needing intervention will collaborate with our interventional cardiologist to select the best course of action. Many of these procedures are performed at the Cigarroa Surgical Center, an outpatient ambulatory center accredited by The Joint Commission. This allows for same-day discharge without the need for extended hospital stays. For further details on the Surgical Center, please refer to its dedicated tab.

Cardiology Device Assessments

Ensuring the optimal performance of an implanted cardiac device is crucial for maintaining heart health and overall well-being. At Cigarroa Clinic, we prioritize this critical aspect of cardiac care. We offer specialized checks for both pacemakers and defibrillators, conducted by our certified specialists. These checks are thorough, encompassing all facets of the device’s functionality. Not only do we evaluate the current performance of the device, but we also assess for any potential future issues, ensuring that you’re safeguarded against unforeseen complications. With the combination of advanced technology and our dedicated expertise, you can be confident in the effectiveness and longevity of your cardiac device.

Congestive Heart Failure

Heart failure means your heart can’t pump blood effectively to meet your body’s needs, but it doesn’t signify complete heart malfunction. It’s a serious but manageable condition when treated correctly. If you experience shortness of breath when active or lying down, swelling in the legs or feet, or symptoms like fatigue and wheezing, it’s vital to consult with our specialists. These may be signs of heart failure, where fluid build-up can cause breathing difficulties.

At Cigarroa Clinic, we tailor heart failure treatments to each patient’s unique needs and symptom severity. Treatments may include lifestyle changes, medications for blood pressure and cholesterol, diuretics, EECP therapy, and implantable devices like ICDs for irregular heartbeats. In specific cases, surgical interventions like coronary bypass or valve surgery may be advised.

Peripheral Vascular Disease

Peripheral Artery Disease, known as PAD, is a condition where blood vessels, especially in the legs, narrow due to fatty deposits. This narrowing can lead to reduced blood flow, resulting in symptoms like leg pain or cramping during walking, coldness or swelling in the lower extremities, and wounds that heal slowly. It’s essential to recognize and treat PAD not just to improve mobility, but also because it increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

At Cigarroa Clinic, our approach to PAD emphasizes a combination of lifestyle adjustments, such as adopting a heart-healthy diet, increasing physical activity, and stopping smoking. Medications might be prescribed to manage cholesterol, control blood pressure, or prevent blood clots. In certain situations, procedural interventions like angioplasty and stenting might be recommended to restore adequate blood flow.

Peripheral Interventions

Peripheral interventions refer to procedures aimed at restoring blood flow in arteries outside the heart, most commonly in the legs. These interventions can alleviate symptoms, improve mobility, and prevent severe complications. At Cigarroa Clinic, we utilize cutting-edge techniques and state-of-the-art equipment to provide the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Patients treated at the Cigarroa Surgical Center benefit from our advanced facilities and highly trained staff. The center specializes in minimally invasive procedures, allowing for quicker recovery times and reduced hospital stays. Our emphasis is always on patient safety, comfort, and effective treatment, ensuring optimal results and patient satisfaction.
